Microneedling Collagen Induction Therapy, What Clinicians Should Know

Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy): What Clinicians Should Know

By Teleta Editorial on 29/10/2025

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, has become one of the most in-demand aesthetic procedures in recent years and, is reaching its peak in consumer interest!

Supported by a growing body of clinical evidence, microneedling offers a minimally invasive approach to skin rejuvenation: stimulating the body’s natural repair processes and improving overall dermal quality.

What Does Microneedling Actually Do?

Microneedling involves the controlled creation of micro-injuries in the skin using fine, sterile needles. These micro-channels trigger the body’s wound-healing cascade, stimulating fibroblast activity and the production of collagen types I and III, as well as elastin.

The result is improved skin texture, firmness, and hydration, reducing the appearance of:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Enlarged pores
  • Pigmentation irregularities
  • Photoaged or lax skin

When combined with bio-revitalizing agents such as Neofound, Fillmed NCTF, Neofound EXO, or Yaqoot, the treatment outcome can be enhanced. These formulations deliver essential Amino Acids, Peptides, Exosomes, and Antioxidants directly into the dermis, supporting tissue regeneration and cellular health.

What Is the Downside of Microneedling?

While microneedling is generally well-tolerated and safe, clinicians should advise patients of temporary side effects:

  • Erythema and mild edema for 24–48 hours
  • Sensitivity or dryness post-procedure
  • Risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in darker skin types if aftercare is not followed
  • Rarely, infection or scarring if non-sterile techniques are used

Adherence to strict aseptic protocols, appropriate needle depth selection, and the use of high-quality professional serums are key to minimizing risks.

Choosing the Correct Microneedling Depth

When performing microneedling, precision and caution are essential, particularly when treating scars or sensitive areas such as the face, neck, and décolletage. Deeper needle penetration increases the risk of bleeding, bruising, keloid formation, and patient discomfort, so careful depth selection is vital for both safety and efficacy.

Facial regions vary significantly in skin thickness:

  • Lower cheeks and areas with a denser epidermis typically tolerate 0.5–1.5 mm needle depth.
  • Forehead and periorbital regions, where the skin is thinner and more delicate, require shallower depths of 0.25–0.75 mm to minimize trauma.

Beyond anatomy, individual patient factors must guide treatment planning.

  • Age: Older patients often have thinner, more fragile skin, necessitating conservative depths compared to younger individuals. Since collagen synthesis declines around age 30, adjusting technique based on dermal resilience supports safer, more effective outcomes.
  • Skin type and sensitivity: Fitzpatrick type, hydration levels, and prior aesthetic history influence tolerance and healing.
  • Treatment indication: Conditions such as acne scarring and deep wrinkles may require increased depths for collagen remodeling, whereas rosacea, melasma, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation call for more superficial treatments to avoid exacerbation.

Ultimately, microneedling is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. Customizing depth and technique to the individual’s anatomy, age, and skin condition ensures optimal results while minimizing complications.

Is Microneedling Better Than Botox?

Microneedling and Botox serve 2 different purposes and can complement each other rather than one or the other.

  • Botox (botulinum toxin type A) temporarily relaxes dynamic muscles responsible for expression lines.
  • Microneedling improves skin quality, targeting structural issues such as texture, elasticity, and scarring.

For patients seeking global rejuvenation, combining microneedling with bio-stimulatory treatments like Neofound EXO—rich in exosomes and growth factors—can optimize results beyond what neuromodulators alone achieve.

How Long Do Microneedling Results Last?

Microneedling results are gradual and cumulative. Collagen remodeling typically continues for up to 3–6 months after a treatment course. Most clinicians recommend:

  • An initial series of 3–6 sessions spaced out 3–4 weeks apart
  • Maintenance treatments every 6–12 months, depending on patient age and skin condition

Results can be extended by supporting dermal health with targeted products such as Jalupro Superhydro, known for its high concentration of amino acids and hyaluronic acid.

Why Microneedling Deserves a Place in Every Aesthetic Practice

Microneedling remains a cornerstone of regenerative aesthetics, bridging the gap between minimally invasive procedures and advanced biostimulation.

For Professionals within the Aesthetics industry, combining collagen induction therapy with evidence-based dermal formulations provides a predictable, customizable pathway to skin rejuvenation.
